In a bid to curb the second wave of coronavirus epidemics and transmission, the government has issued 18-point directives in the next two weeks to re-transport half of the passengers. The owners agreed to run the bus-minibus with half the passengers as per the government instructions. But in that case they want to take 80 percent extra rent.

The bus owners made the demand at a meeting with the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) on Monday night (March 29).

The BRTA sent the demand to the Ministry of Road Transport in the form of a proposal last night. With the approval of the ministry, half of the passenger transport and additional fare will be effective in public transport.

BRTA chairman Nur Mohammad Majumder confirmed the news. He said the decision would be effective only after receiving instructions from the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges.

Earlier, the government on Monday directed to transport half of the passengers in public transport for the next two weeks to prevent corona infection. The government took the same decision last year. At that time the bus fare was increased by 60 percent for two months and half of the passengers were transported.
