Six teams have been shortlisted for the eighth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), a popular domestic cricket franchise tournament. Although the BCB has expressed interest in buying 6 franchise teams, it has selected only 7 franchises as per the pre-plan.
In the upcoming edition of BPL, 8 teams representing Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet, Barisal, Comilla and Khulna regions will be seen. In other words, this time former champion Rangpur and last year's champion Rajshahi have been left out.
However, only Comilla Victorians and Chittagong Challengers are among the old teams. The two-time champion Comilla is owned by Lotus Group as usual. Akhtar Group, which played last season, got the ownership of Chittagong Challengers as usual.
Besides, Dhaka owned by Rupa and Marn Group, Sylhet by Pragati Group, Barisal by Fortune Group and Mind Tree will represent Khulna.
On the other hand, Miriam Group wanted to buy the Rajshahi franchise but they were not included in this year's event. And Bashundhara Group wanted to buy the former champion Rangpur franchise. But this time the group has lost interest as it has a one-year contract with the franchisees. Besides, Beximco and Jemcon group are also not in BPL this time.
