Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Shahbaz Sharif has been elected as the country's new prime minister.
A total of 164 votes were cast in favor of Shahbaz Sharif in the lower house of the Pakistani parliament on Monday afternoon.
PTI vice-president Shah Mahmood Qureshi was Shahbaz Sharif's only rival in the National Assembly polls. Shahbaz Sharif had no rivals as PTI lawmakers boycotted the session. A majority in the vote required the support of 182 members, with Shahbaz getting 184 votes.
Earlier on Saturday night, Imran Khan lost the post of Prime Minister in a no-confidence vote.
Former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's younger brother Shahbaz has been elected the 23rd Prime Minister of Pakistan. Shahbaz, 60, was born in Lahore. This child of a rich business family was educated in Pakistan. After finishing his studies, he joined the family business. He currently owns a joint venture in a steel factory in Pakistan.
