Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania star Kathryn Newton, who has taken over the role of the MCU's Cassie Lang, addresses a potential future Young Avengers storyline. Set to have an expanded role in the upcoming Ant-Man threequel, the role of Cassie Lang was recast following the character's most recent appearance in 2019's Avengers: Endgame, which saw Emma Fuhrmann play the character post-Blip. It was later confirmed that Newton would take over the role going forward, with the actor now set to make her MCU debut next year.

A younger Cassie Lang featured fairly prominently in the first Ant-Man installment, which introduced Paul Rudd's titular hero, otherwise known as Scott Lang. However, as the MCU continues to expand its roster of heroes, Ant-Man 3 will re-introduce Cassie to the franchise as her older self, with many excited to see what the future holds for the character. With the recent introduction of other young heroes such as Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop and Iman Vellani's Ms. Marvel, speculation has continued to grow that a potential adaptation of Marvel comics' Young Avengers storyline, which sees a team up between Marvel's younger heroes, could be on the horizon.

While in attendance at this year's San Diego Comic Con, Newton discusses this potential storyline, offering a keen response when addressing the possibility. While speaking to Screen Rant, Newton shares that she is "a fan" of the Young Avengers, and more specifically Kate Bishop. The star references her character's friendship with Bishop in the comics, revealing that she would find it "really exciting" if Marvel were to explore these storylines in the future. Check out Newton's full quote below:

It would be really great if they did the Young Avengers. I'm a fan of the Young Avengers. I'm a fan of Kate Bishop; I know [she] and Cassie are supposed to be friends in the comics. I think that would be really exciting. I know Cassie's love story. I'm excited to see the fans' reactions and just find out what the fans want to see.

The comics have seen Cassie Lang possess the same abilities as her father, which mostly mean she is able to increase and decrease her size, therefore many are expecting to see Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania introduce these new powers to Newton's character. With Avengers: Endgame having neatly wrapped up many of the Avengers' stories, many feel that a pivot to the Young Avengers storyline is the natural progression as Marvel now moves into Phase 5 and beyond. Vellani, who plays Kamala Khan in Ms. Marvel, recently offered a slightly more coy answer in response to a similar question regarding Young Avengers, joking that Marvel head Kevin Feige would have to be convinced first.

As with any Marvel project, there is always a possibility that the actors are bluffing when it comes to discussing future projects, with the studio incredibly high on maintaining secrecy and protecting spoilers. However, it's clear to see that, regardless of whether Newton is aware of any future plans for a Young Avengers team up, she would be incredibly keen to see it play out on screen. With SDCC having brought new confirmations for MCU Phases 5 & 6, it's likely that Young Avengers is at least on Feige's radar, so for now, audiences will have to see what the events of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania hold for Cassie Lang and whether it sets up an exciting future ahead for the young hero.
