guinness world records: Skateboarder Leticia Bufoni displayed with record certificates at X Diversions 2022

Six-time X Games gold medalist and Brazilian icon Letícia Bufoni isn’t just breaking down barriers in women’s skateboarding – she’s breaking records.

One of the most famous female skateboarders of the 21st century, Bufoni is conquering the world of skateboarding one ollie at a time.

Today, ahead of the Men’s Street Finals taking place in Vista, California, USA, Bufoni was presented with certificates by Guinness World Records adjudicator Hannah Ortman for the following record titles:

Most Skateboard Street gold medals won at the X Games (street, female) - 5 total

Most medals won in X Games summer disciplines (female) - 12 total

Bufoni was first awarded the title for most medals won in X Games summer disciplines (female) in June 2019 after receiving her 11th medal, increasing her record to 12 in 2021. She has also held the record for most Skateboard Street gold medals won at the X Games (female) since 2019. She used to hold this record jointly with Elissa Steamer (USA), but edged her out to hold the title outright with her fifth win in 2021.

In 2013, Bofuni also broke the record for the most wins of the World Cup Skateboarding World Rankings (Street, female) with four.

During her childhood, she was fond of the outdoors and played multiple sports in the streets of her hometown in São Paulo, Brazil – but skateboarding wasn’t one of them.

The successful skater first visited California, USA, to compete at the X Games at 14 years old.

"When I arrived in the U.S. from Brazil at 14 years old, I knew there was a huge opportunity to go after my dreams," said Bufoni.

After landing her first sponsor she convinced her father to let her stay stateside, where she has been following her dreams and competing professionally ever since.

From the moment she began grinding and sliding, Bufoni set her sights on greatness and over the last 15 years has made a name for herself as an X Games gold medalist, Brazilian Olympian and SLS Super Crown Champion.

Additionally, she has been recognized as the number one women’s street skateboarder by World Cup Skate for four consecutive years, and Brazil’s Female Skater of the Year in 2009 and 2010.

In 2013, Bufoni was also nominated for an ESPY award and won three X Games gold medals.

In 2018, she was named one of the most powerful women in international sports by Forbes and appeared on Forbes Brazil’s "Under 30" list, which curates the country’s most promising young talent.

But the achievements don’t stop there.

Bufoni also competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, which were postponed to 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and currently serves as the Executive Athlete Ambassador for World Skate, the sport’s governing body officially recognized by the International Olympic Committee.

The 29-year-old doesn’t have any plans to let up.

Bufoni continues to skateboard competitively and is working on pursuing various business endeavors including her own skateboard company, Monarch Project.

With her unique skating style and ambitious attitude, Bufoni hopes to continue inspiring girls and women everywhere to believe in themselves and not let gender stereotypes stand in their way.

"This is even bigger than my dreams. Setting a world record means so much and I’m so grateful for the recognition on what I’ve achieved in skateboarding."
