New Black Adam images provide fresh looks at Dwayne Johnson's anti-hero and the Justice Society of America members in the DC Extended Universe movie. Serving as a spinoff of 2019's Shazam!, the upcoming DCEU film will tell an origin story for Black Adam, once a slave from Kahndaq who is granted powers by the ancient wizard Shazam and imprisoned for nearly 5,000 years for abusing his abilities. Once he is freed and unleashed into the present day, Black Adam's barbaric behavior quickly attracts the attention of the JSA, who attempt to reform him.
The Rock leads the Black Adam cast as the titular antihero alongside Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, and Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate – all members of the JSA. Johnson reunites with Jungle Cruise director Jaume Collet-Serra on Black Adam, which wrapped filming earlier this year. The Rock's debut as Black Adam has been in the making for over a decade and the actor has long teased that his arrival will change the overall power structure of the DCEU franchise. With Black Adam's release right around the corner, DC is looking to continue building hype for the film.
Just two months out from Black Adam's premiere, Vanity Fair has exclusive new images showing off Johnson in costume as the titular antihero. Black Adam can also be seen using his lightning powers. The photos also show fresh looks at each one of the movie's JSA members, including Hawkman and his Nth metal wings, Cyclone's wind-controlling powers, Doctor Fate holding his magical helmet, and Atom Smasher in regular size form. These new Black Adam images are just the latest in a long line of sneak peeks at the DCEU movie that have come from trailers and social media teases in recent months. Only Black Adam's and Cyclone's powers are fully on display in the pictures, but they offer an enticing tease of what's to come. Hopefully, as the release date approaches, viewers will see more of the rest of the JSA's powers on display, beyond what's already been seen in trailers.
Almost as anticipated as Black Adam's DCEU debut is the JSA's inclusion in the film. Each of the members has their own special abilities, which they will try to use to stop Black Adam's rampage early on before they can hopefully teach him to change his ways. Once they achieve that goal, Black Adam and the JSA will then be forced to team up in order to defeat a greater evil in Sabbac. If these new images are any indication, Black Adam is going to have some powerful allies by his side. Black Adam is shaping up to be an epic superhero blockbuster, which audiences can finally see in theaters this fall on October 21.
