He excelled both on screen and stage. He changed profession in the middle and went into politics. Then again that old love returns to acting. This time he left everything and went to the country of no return. Yes, we are talking about Oscar-winning British actress Glenda Jackson.


The actress died at her home due to illness. Glenda died Thursday (June 15) at her London home after a short illness, Jackson's assistant Lionel Lerner said. He was 87 years old at the time of his death.


Glendar was born in 1936 in Birkenhead, North West England. He trained in acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. Glenda became one of the biggest British stars of the 1960s and 1970s. He won the Oscar two years in a row. He received this honor in 1971 for 'Women in Love' and in 1974 for 'A Touch of Class'.


Even though he was awarded, he did not attend any of the Oscar ceremonies due to his busy schedule. In this regard, Glenda told BBC Radio last year, "It's a great thing to receive the award. But they don't make you better.'


Then he entered politics. He won the parliamentary elections in 1992. He spent 23 years as a Labor Party legislator. In 1997 he served as Transport Minister in Prime Minister Tony Blair's first government. Glenda clashed with Blair over the 2003 invasion of Iraq. The decision to go to war with America without UN approval pained him.


Glenda returned to acting after leaving Parliament in 2015. Theater lovers were impressed to see him in Shakespeare's play 'King Lear'. The production became hugely popular. Theater was Glenda's life. But after returning to acting, she came to the screen a little late. In 2019, Glenda was seen in 'Elizabeth is Missing' after almost three decades. He was again awarded with the 'BAFTA' honor.


The actress recently completed the shooting of 'The Great Escaper'. Michael Kane was her co-star. Glendar has not seen the release of the film. Colleagues from the entertainment and political world have mourned the death of the veteran actress
