This time, the United States will prevent China in cloud computing
The Biden administration is preparing to limit the access of various Chinese companies to US cloud computing services.
Cloud service companies such as Amazon and Microsoft that use advanced artificial intelligence-based chips must seek permission from US regulators before selling the chips to Chinese customers, US trade daily Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter.
The U.S. Commerce Department will issue the new ban within weeks as part of an export control policy introduced in October.
In this context, Reuters did not get an immediate response when asked for comments from the US Department of Commerce, Microsoft and Amazon.
Meanwhile, China said on Monday it would control exports of some metals used in the semiconductor industry. It was mentioned in the report by Reuters as a "reaction to the US ban on the country in high-tech microchips".
China said the ban was imposed to protect the country's national security and interests, while exports of gallium and germanium-related products would require permission from authorities.Â
