The cost of film production in Nigeria is very high. But Jaeola Muyiwa Donald has found an excellent option to fulfill the dreams of the youth in making movies in Nollywood.
"I know a lot of people who want to do it," Muiwa said. But they don't have all the facilities. That's why I am making movies with mobile phones. Whatever you have in your pocket is enough to start your journey to reach your goal.'
However, this mobile filmmaker said that making movies on mobile was not his main goal.
"The goal was to make something for the big screen using a big camera," he said. Interestingly, I made a short film with Blackmagic. Then I fell in love with it and wanted to do more such work. And so I went to my friend who owns Blackmagic. He said, 'We are busy now.' Then I started watching different types of short videos on YouTube. I saw that most of the people were shooting such videos with their mobile phones.''
Muiwa then started doing various online courses on mobile film. As a result, his skills in how to make films with mobile cameras began to grow.
"This is something that has affected Nollywood," said Muiwa. It has changed the way work is done. I have been able to impact the lives of people who did not have such an opportunity or who could not afford to spend huge amounts of money on training and making films. I have an online course where you can learn cinematography and editing.'
Muiwa said, 'Currently, the issue of mobile movies in Nollywood has become very important. I know vloggers and YouTubers who use mobile phones to make videos for their channels. You would think they are cameras, but what they are actually using is a mobile phone.'
He thinks, 'In the future, movies made with mobile phones will definitely have an impact on Nollywood. You can tell wonderful stories with mobile phones. Actually the device is not the important thing. Rather, it is important who stands behind the machine.
"Maybe you don't have the budget to make the kind of impressive films we see on Hollywood screens," says Muiwa. But with a mobile phone you can tell the story and become important in Nollywood.”
This mobile filmmaker said, 'You can shoot 4K quality videos with it. Shooting video with a mobile camera doesn't improve the quality - I don't think so. Because, you cannot shoot 4K quality video with some common cameras. But some mobiles can shoot 4K to 8K quality videos. Many of you may not be using ordinary cameras in the near future. You will use the mobile phone for the video shoot.
Muiwar's mobile content has been recognized at international film festivals and won a couple of awards.
The competition to shoot high definition videos with mobile phones is increasing. And it's helping content creators, who are using expensive cameras, work with mobile.
